Display Tails version during boot
When using a good bunch of Tails copies, it is hard to know which version of Tails is booting until is it actually booted. The Tails version could be added during boot in the Boot Menu of loading screen.
This will also confirm your update if you are rebooting after an update.
On the code side:
- It’s cheap to implement this in the Greeter.
- Wrt. GRUB + syslinux, if UX is OK with embedding this info inside the Tails logo displayed as a background picture, then it’s cheap too: we can insert this info inside the corresponding pictures when building Tails images.
We agree that the earlier we convey this info to the user who needs it, the better: they can decide earlier how to act based on this info.
