From the different applications listed in #7036, WhisperBack is the only one that could really make sense outside of Tails. All distros needs better user feedback mechanisms :)

We haven't done a good work until now to make it available to other distributions, but it could be packaged in Debian in some distant future. It's a good example of applications that could be really useful to other distros as well and we could benefit ourselves from that (and I think that the code was initially written to allow a quite generic configuration scheme).

I'm not sure how this relates to your plans to merge its source in the main repo or if it's worth blocking on this quite remote hypothesis. Your call!

I agree.

Since we've created WhisperBack many years ago, we've been maintaining it as an independent upstream project, separate from Tails, with a pluggable config system.
From my vantage point, that's a pretty good track record in terms of making it available to other distros.
Granted, we did not upload it to Debian (not that anyone asked), nor did we publicly encourage folks to use it.

IMO, if folks wanted to use WhisperBack, they already had ample opportunity to do so ⇒ I'd rather not block on this.

segfault, was this strategy discussion the main blocker for you here?
If you think you'll be able to work on this soon: great! Else, please consider deassigning this ticket so it's clear to others that it's up for grabs :)
