Persistent network connections are bound to permanent MAC address ⇒ unusable on another computer + potential security risk
Originally created by @goupille on #10803 (Redmine)
If the network persistence is activated, the real (permanent) MAC address of the NIC
used at that time are stored in the /live/persistence/TailsData_unlocked/nm-connections/
files (802-11-wireless.mac-address
).
This causes 2 problems:
- Persistent network connections only work on the computer they were configured on.
- We store persistent information about the computers a given Tails USB stick was used on (those files belong to root, but there no point to keep that kind of information).
