Description

There are notifications that a given user will basically see every time they start Tails in their usual context. For those, it would be nice if the user could opt-in to a persistence preset that allows them to check "don't ask me again". If we had this, we could also dare making these notifications more noisy, e.g. using other technologies than desktop notifications.

  • Warning when starting Tails in a VM
  • Synchronizing the system's clock
  • This version of Tails has known security issues
  • Additional Software
  • MAC Spoofing failed
  • Warning when starting Unsafe Browser
  • Tor is not ready when starting Tor Browser

Nobody to tackle this. It would require UX research first anyway. I'm thus changing the category. Dear UX team: do you think we should keep this wide ticket open to research places where this could apply, or should we instead tackle such things on a more precise application basis?

  • It sounds like a good idea to have a generic mechanism for that.
  • I understand that we're refering here as storing this information in Persistence, otherwise we'll have a bigger debate. See #5501.

A good start would be to list all the notifications that we're adding in Tails specifically. We can do that in the description of this ticket.

I updated the list of notification by doing git grep -i notif in our source code.

For now, the one that makes most sense for me is the one when running from virtual machines (and it's not easy to have persistence on virtual machines anyway) so for me we should wait until we have better reasons to work on this.
